MBO will be appearing in this opening concert of the 2024 Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields Festival under the baton of Gary Ekkel and with harp soloist Hannah Lane, organ soloist David Macfarlane, vocal soloists Quin Thomson soprano, Dean Sky-Lucas countertenor, Christopher Watson tenor and the voices of the Alchemy Consort.
This Ode, in honour of St Cecilia's Day, when presented in London in 1736, was such a success that it encouraged Handel to make the transition from writing Italian operas to English choral works. The work describes a banquet held by and his mistress in the captured city of , during which the musician sings and plays his lyre, arousing various moods in Alexander.
